Accommodation Options Near Niah
Accommodation near Niah National Park ranges from the basic but charming hostel within the park itself to a full range of international hotels in Miri city, 110 km to the north.
Inside the Park (Niah National Park Hostel)
The Sarawak Forestry Corporation operates a hostel within Niah National Park, adjacent to the park headquarters. The hostel offers dormitory and private room options with basic facilities. Staying inside the park is the only way to witness the bat exodus, as the cave access road closes before the evening spectacle begins.
Booking: Through the SFC website or Kuching/Miri offices.
Approximate price: MYR 15–60 per person/night depending on room type.
Batu Niah Town
The small town of Batu Niah, 3 km from the park, has several simple guesthouses and budget hotels. The town has basic restaurants (primarily Chinese coffee shops and Malay food stalls) and a small market. This is a good option for budget travellers who want a private room near the park.
Miri City (110 km)
Miri offers the widest range of accommodation — from international business hotels to budget guesthouses. For visitors planning to combine Niah with Miri's attractions (the Petroleum Museum, Canada Hill, local seafood), basing yourself in Miri and making a day trip to Niah is a comfortable option. However, this prevents witnessing the bat exodus.
